Matthew 12:36: But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
Romans 14:12: So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
1 Peter 4:1: Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; 2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. 3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: 4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: 5 Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the Dead.

Matthew 21:31: Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto Him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, that the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

God accepts and uses unlikely people who really obey Him. In the story of the two sons, one of them said, *I*ll go,* but he didn*t. The other son said, *I*m not going,* but changed his mind (repented) and obeyed. It*s a common situation in everyday living. There are many people whose profession of religion is excellent, but who somehow never got around to obeying God*s will. Here and there, however, are some unlikely people--folks you and I would never view as likely candidates for God*s work on the basis of their looks or their promise of performance. But, nonetheless, when they faithfully obey God, He teaches them and He uses them. *Not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called* (1 Cor. 1:26), I*ve quoted that Scripture for a purpose, my friend. God blesses people who really put Him first.
Another area of concern is the necessity of giving an account. My father said to me one day, *Boy, I want you to learn to give an account of things. I*ll give you an allowance each week to buy the groceries for our meals and I want you to keep a record.* I said, *All right, Pop.* But day after day I neglected to start recordkeeping. After three or four weeks, my father asked, *Boy, where*s that record you*ve been keeping?* *Oh,* I said, *I*m not ready. I have to finish it up.* After supper, I brought out my record: stationery, 15 cents; chewing gum, 10 cents; popcorn, 10 cents; miscellaneous, $29.42! My day of accounting had come.
Small thought here. The Apostle Paul said that we*ll all stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ and everyone will receive according to the deeds done in the body, whether they be good or bad (2 Cor. 5:10). A day of accounting is surely coming. Are you ready for it?
